Old City Roast

Bold flavor with a storied past. Old City Roast is a tribute to Knoxville's rugged revival and vibrant heritage. Each cup tells the story of the Old City neighborhood—once a swampy backwater, later flushed with life by the arrival of railroads in the mid-1850s. Freight cars hauled flour, meat, and yes, coffee, transforming the area into a bustling industrial hub. As the rails ran through what was once nicknamed “The Bottom,” entrepreneurs saw opportunity—and communities rose from the mire, including those of free Black residents and European immigrants, all tied together by the rhythmic clang of trains and the aroma of roasting beans. Old City Roast tastes like transformation: rich and nuanced, with layers of caramel depth, a crisp finish, and a hint of Appalachian oak—like an old freight depot turned modern café. Calling our Old City Roast a house blend is a bit of a misnomer—we have masterfully blended our Central American and African coffees to create a stunning, medium-bodied, and well balanced profile.  Created for universal appeal, this coffee will delight everyone from the at-home coffee barista to restaurants to even the most discerning coffee shops.
